Interested in a career in Security? Read on…..

The Security industry offers a wide range of varied and interesting roles and opportunities for everyone.  Whether you are a school leaver, a university graduate, or interested in a change of career whatever your age or experience then there are plenty of companies and opportunities you can explore.

The City Security Council has asked a few of its member companies to help us provide an insight into the various roles and people who work within security by sharing some of the reasons why they joined the industry and what they like or even dislike about their roles.  Over the next few weeks we will showcase various people and their answers.

If you are looking for a career or new role in the security industry then a good starting point would be to visit the websites of our CSC member companies (see logos on the homepage of our website) they would all love to hear from you.  Each company will have information about their current vacancies on their individual websites, as well as details on how to apply.

We are delighted to begin our security insights series by sharing with you below some thoughts from Costas Constantinou, who is a Front of House Security Officer at Allied Universal.

What is your current role and how did you get there?
My current role is Front of house Security Officer.  Having worked in the security industry for quite some time I wanted a change in role. 22 Bishopsgate has allowed me to do just that and allowed for progression.

Why did you first join the security industry, and why did you carry on?
I first joined the security industry as I felt it was an industry, I could really thrive in. I enjoy liaising with people and offering assistance. I carry on working within security mainly because of the building I am based in and the company I work for. I have never been made to feel so part of a TEAM, we work as one and you honestly could not ask for a better place to work in.

What do you think the public’s perception of the security industry is – and how does this compare to what you’ve experienced?
I really do believe the public’s perception of security has really changed. Security is a lot more respected now, as the role is so diverse. We do not merely protect; we are very much about customer service and assistance. I have experienced this first hand, often being thanked for my help.

What do you like and dislike about the industry – and what has surprised you?
I like the fact that security is now a very different role, especially here at 22. We are not static on a position; we do not merely check a pass. Even the look of security is changing, our uniform is very casual, allowing us to be comfortable and stand out, tattoos can be on show. I do dislike the fact that people can have the misconception that security is an easy role, and anyone can do. The new threats and issues security face in our evolving world has really surprised me.
